What Is Holistic Health?

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

Holistic living isn’t just a way of life, but a mindset that every part of your being is connected and influences the other. It means that you are aware of and understand what you need mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

Beyond being aware of what you need, it also requires you to be intentional with your thoughts, words, and actions. Being intentional in your dealings with yourself helps you to perceive and interact with the world in a positive way.

Taking a holistic approach to healing is remembering to nurture every part of ourselves because we know each part is connected and crucial to our overall well being.

What Are The Benefits of Holistic Living?

Holistic living can have many benefits, but here are some of what I consider the most rewarding.

  • Increased mental clarity, happiness, and energy

  • Decreased stress and anxiety

  • More self-awareness and alignment with the best version of yourself

How to Live a Holistic Life?

I know it can be overwhelming to just think about how to live a holistic life, so I’ve created a list of the things I do on a regular basis to help make sure I’m living my best self.

  • Chiropractic Care

  • Massage

  • Reiki Energy Work

  • Herbalism

  • Yoga

  • Meditation

  • Acupuncture

  • Nutrition and Diet

  • Therapy Journaling

Another important aspect of living a holistic life is making sure you have a way to deal with all the negative and difficult things that will, without fail, happen. It’s crucial to establish some sort of outlet for yourself. When we go through something difficult and we don’t address it, but instead bottle everything up inside, we can cause emotional blockages that could harm us physically.

For me, yoga and meditation have proven to be an extremely therapeutic practice that allows me to address not just the negative, but also everything else that can happen in everyday life. It has taught me to sit with my feelings, learn what I need to, and let it flow through me. It allows me to hold onto only to what I choose and to release what could harm me.

Treat Your Body Right

Since embracing a holistic lifestyle, I’ve started to be more intentional with what I’m consuming and what I’m putting into my environment. Beyond eating raw, natural, and whole foods, I try to use chemical free household and cleaning products. All those chemicals that are found in just basic cleaning supplies can negatively play into our emotions and bodies. When possible, be intentional with what you are consuming and surrounding yourself with.

We’ve talked a lot about what it means to live a holistic lifestyle and what you can do to get there, but unless you create routines and healthy habits that support your journey, you won’t be able to reach the vision you have for yourself.

When it comes down to it, a holistic lifestyle is all about taking care of yourself. Remember to take time to center and align yourself to make sure you are giving yourself the best chance you can.
